REAL ID in Alaska: What to Bring and How to Apply

As of May 7, 2025, the TSA requires a REAL ID compliant license, a U.S. passport, or another approved ID to board a domestic flight in the United States. If you fly out of Fairbanks, Anchorage, or Juneau, your standard Alaska license is no longer enough.
Documents required for an Alaska REAL ID
1. Proof of identity (one document)
- Unexpired U.S. passport or passport card
- Certified U.S. birth certificate
- Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship
- Valid permanent resident card
2. Proof of Social Security number (one document)
- Social Security card
- W-2 or 1099 with full SSN
- Pay stub showing full SSN, name, and employer
3. Proof of Alaska residency (two documents)
- Utility bill dated within the last 90 days
- Bank statement with Alaska address
- Rental or mortgage agreement
- Alaska vehicle registration
4. Proof of name change (if applicable)
- Certified marriage certificate
- Divorce decree
- Court order
